My room was on the ground floor, overlooking the gas station forecourt, (and thankfully a mini-supermarket where I could buy food in sealed packages). The girls at reception are friendly, (though unable to oblige when asked for a room change). The reception, should you not be able to find it, is over on the far left. I had to cover my mouth and nose - and I am NOT one of those who finds every smell offensive but it really IS bad! The front doors lead you straight into an ill-lit, slot-machine-filled lobby with half a dozen punters and neon signs announcing the 'show-rooms', 'restaurant' (or similar) - all whilst one chokes on the unbearable smell. It hits you as soon as you enter the door - a mix of stale cigarettes and mouldy carpet. The whole place feels like it has dropped out of the twilight zone! The first impression on entering Whisky Pete's is the smell. (My guess is that the main hotel block tower is not in use, only the two-floor wing to the left). The hotel itself, a semi-abandoned, towering mock-castle, complete with turrets and neon is positioned scenically besides a gas station. I appreciate that visiting at the end of October, I may not have been experiencing the 'resort' at its best. Where to start? Probably with the vicinity of the hotel - an apparently abandoned theme park consisting of three casino/hotels straddling the interstate, with the out-of-use monorail, roller coaster and abandoned retail and eating outlets.
